About FreelancerTaxHQ

Freelancer taxes, made clear.

Working for yourself is freeing. Figuring out your taxes usually isn’t. Nobody withholds anything from your client payments, the rules change every year, and most official guidance reads like it was written for accountants, not for the designer, driver or consultant who has to follow it.

FreelancerTaxHQ exists to fix that. We publish clear, practical guides that help freelancers, independent contractors and the self-employed understand their taxes and money, so they can file with confidence, avoid penalties and keep more of what they earn.

Who we help

  • Freelancers and independent contractors who get paid on a 1099: designers, developers, writers, consultants, marketers and more.
  • Gig workers who drive, deliver or shop through apps like Uber, DoorDash and Instacart.
  • Creators and online sellers earning from YouTube, TikTok, Etsy, Amazon or their own store.
  • Side hustlers who have a W-2 job and some extra income on the side.
  • Small business owners deciding whether an LLC or S-corp makes sense.

What you’ll find here

  • Step-by-step guides to self-employment tax, quarterly estimated payments, Schedule C and the 1099 forms.
  • Deduction guides for specific professions and platforms, with real numbers.
  • Plain-English explainers on LLCs, S-corps, retirement plans and health insurance for the self-employed.
  • Free calculators to estimate your taxes and how much to set aside.
  • Honest comparisons of accounting software, business bank accounts and other tools.

How we create our content

Taxes are a topic where a wrong number can cost you real money. That’s why every guide follows the same process:

  1. We start from official sources. Every figure, deadline and rule comes from the IRS, the Social Security Administration, state tax agencies or the law itself, and we link to them.
  2. We explain with examples. Instead of repeating the rules, we show what they mean for a real freelancer, with the math worked out.
  3. We have it reviewed. [Guides are reviewed by (name), (CPA / Enrolled Agent), before publication.]
  4. We keep it up to date. Tax limits change every year. We review our guides each tax season and whenever the rules change, and every article shows the date it was last updated.
  5. We fix mistakes fast. If you spot an error, write to us at [email] and we’ll check and correct it.

How we make money

FreelancerTaxHQ is free to read. We keep it that way through:

  • Advertising shown on our pages.
  • Affiliate links: when we recommend a product, such as accounting software or a business bank account, we may earn a commission if you sign up, at no extra cost to you.

Commissions never decide what we recommend or how we rank products. We only suggest tools we’d consider using ourselves, and we clearly mark affiliate links. See our Affiliate Disclosure.

Important note

FreelancerTaxHQ provides general educational information, not tax, legal or financial advice. Everyone’s situation is different, and tax laws change. For decisions about your own taxes, please talk to a qualified tax professional such as a CPA or Enrolled Agent.
